Hands on - wine harvest 2011

This years harvest season just finished and all in all 300 million kilogram of grapes have been harvested.

We had a little share in it, we didn‘ t count the kilograms, but a few baskets full of „Parellada“ we‘ ve gathered. Our co- workers started early in the morning and had a full 9 hours day ahead of them. We only joined at noon and felt a little guilty for only going on a leisure harvest trip.

Everybody, kids included, learned about how to cut the grape, how get rid of the tainted ones and how to work together to fill the big tractor trailer with fresh, wonderful smelling grapes. We all got very sticky fingers and after some time we could image how the field workers backs feel after a whole day of harvesting.

In the afternoon we were rewarded with a wonderful BBQ at the farmhouses‘ porch with views on the valley of Penedes. We tried some of last years cava and hope that this years production will be as good or even a little bit better - as it was harvested with so much love and care.

Cava is made of the Parellada, Macabeu and Xarel.lo varieties.

A perfect August day

We started the day with some light work: preparing the kids for summer camp, preparing breakfast for everybody, giving advice on what to do for a day excursion, cleared breakfast, cared for some wash loads - and then picked up the kids in the village.

We did have a marvellous lunch at the garden restaurant in the village, very economic, but very fresh and lovingly served. The kids loved the sausage, we loved the lenguardo and even better the fresh bottle of cava.

Happily, we started a walk directly from the restaurant. Rambled in the shadow of giant chestnut trees and cooled our feet in the rolling stream with chilly waters from the mountains. Set out many leaf - ships that all shipwrecked at the next turning of the stream. Walked another path along the stream to find many bathing locals in the little lake at the waterfall.

Back home Rainer prepares his very special sangría for all guests. Cheers!

We´ve been out for a walk with Snoopy and the boys and enjoyed walking through the blossoming almond trees so much that we thought you want to share the experience. Blue skies, white and pink almond blossoms, a really magic walk.

Dear friends of Arianella

We spent nearly all December traveling throughout Europe and we visited family, friends and also some very friendly guests from last season from Denmark, Switzerland and Germany. We had a great time and Lino as well as Luan enjoyed seeing different countries and a lot of snow too.

After 2009, 2010 was again a very good year for us. Many nice, friendly and interesting people from all over the world came to visit the Penedés wine region and stayed with us for some days or even weeks...some of them not for the first time.

So, we wish to say "Thank you" again, thank you to all our friends and guests for making 2010 a happy and successful one for us.

We hope that you all had very peaceful and relaxing days during Christmas with your family and friends and that the entrance into the New Year 2011 went smoothly and the way you wanted.

ViJazz 2010 from 2.-4. July in Vilafranca

Hello everybody, friends of Arianella de Can Coral

Today I would like to inform you again about a very nice event coming up at the beginning of July. From the second (2.) to the forth (4.) of July there is the celebration of the 4th ViJazz Festival in Vilafranca del Penedes...ca. 60 kilometers southwest of Barcelona.

It will be an interesting combination of Jazz Music with well known professionals from all over the world and a wine and cava tasting. The Music is free...for the tasting you would have to buy some tickets on site.

The last three editions in 2007, 2008 and 2009 have been very successful and, more important, very enjoyable.

Arianella re-opened the season

Dear friends of Arianel.la de Can Coral

We hope that you had a good summer so far. We opened again Easter this year and have been rather busy since.

We did not want to miss to update you on news @ Arianella.

Over the winter break we did again some wine tasting in the region and got some new treasures in store for you to try. We have new reds, whites and rosés as well as some new sparkling cava.

Bodegas we selected this year are Avgvstvs, Parés Baltà and Mas Candi.

In addition we have been busy working over winter to offer a better service to our guests and added new terraces to two of our double rooms. They are located at the north east side of the house and offer a magnificent view over the vineyards and hilly landscape of the Penedés.

Also the patio got a new "relax-sofa" to make it even more comfi to sit and enjoy the patio with a cool drink. Please see the pics attached.

For those of you who don't know where we are located...we are based close the capital of the wine region "Vilafranca del Penedes" at the side of a small village called "Torrelles de Foix".

Hello dear friends and guests of Arianella de Can Coral.

We would like to thank you all for a wonderful and enjoyable summer with many friendly people from all over the world, a lot of fun, plenty of interesting conversations, many glasses of wine and cava and...despite the crisis...we can gratefully look back to a very successful 2009.

Thank you!

We are now closed until shortly before Easter 2010 (so until end of March), we will use the free time to enjoy our two little kids Lino and Luan and to do some maintanance and reforming work at the house. We hope that you will be able to enjoy some of the changes next year.

Having said this... our appartment will continue to be available over the winter...so if you plan a weekend or so in the area of Barcelona, please feel free to contact us...we love to welcome you here @ Arianella.

As we all can see in the shops nearby, the countdown for christmas has started already and we wish you and your family and friends a very relaxed pre-christmas time and a very peaceful season.

What a nice weekend with Jazz and Wine in Vilafranca

Hello Friends of Arianella, good wine and very good Jazz music!

Last weekend, from 3rd to 5th of July we celebrated the 3rd viJazz Festival in Vilafranca del Penedes. It was superp. Some of our

guests went 3 times. The weather was ideal for this kind of event...24 degrees at night, hardly any wind, dark blue night sky. The music was incredible. It was the first time that I saw Spyro Gyro live...unbelievable with the Sax and with Klarinette.

The picture was taking at around 21:00, afterwards at around 22:00 there was not one seat free, everything was full of friendly people grooving nicely to the smooth jazz tunes. What a night!

And the wine...mmmhhh...for an astonishing price of only 7 Euros we had 3 fillings of nice high quality wines or cava and at the end we could have kept the glass, which was not just any kind of glass but an original Riedel wine glass.

In one word...it was FANTASTIC!

And of course there have been many local bodegas to talk to and to try there wines and cavas. Every day there have been thousands of guests walking the lanes through the inner city of Vilafranca...all happy and relaxed...nice athmosphere.

So...we will go next year again for sure, maybe you can join.

Perfect weather in the Penedés close to Barcelona

Hello friends of Arianella de Can Coral

It is so hot at the moment that you can only do two things...stay in the shade or jump into the pool ;-)...so June is running well weather wise and we welcome again many interested, nice & friendly people every day from i.e. UK, USA, Germany, Holland, Sweden and many other places around the world.

The evenings are very mild and warm at the moment, a good time for staying outside in the patio on the deck chairs, sipping a glass of wine or Cava.

During the last 3 days we had two couples from the USA here with us, professional photographers, and they helped us creating new pictures of our morning breakfast buffet table (pls. see above).

Let's stay in touch and we hope to welcome you here too, sometime.

Arianella de Can Coral has opened again its doors for this years season.
We are a charming little B&B in the wine region "Penedés" 60km southwest of Barcelona.

Some news from the wine department...we tried the new fresh white and rosé wines from last years harvest and we must say...2008 was a very good wine year. Come try and see for yourself...the Penedes is full of charme and charakter...with its lovely hilly landscape, its people, the many big and small wine bodegas, its wonderful wines and cavas, its excellent restaurants, old castles, famous monasteries, etc. the Penedes offers so much for travellers that look for individual highlights during their trip.

Hallo liebe Freunde des Reisens durch Spaniens Weinregionen

Arianella de Can Coral, das kleine romantische Landhotel in den Weinbergen des Penedes südwestlich von Barcelona, ist seit Ostern 2009 wieder für Euch da. Wir haben nach der Winterpause, in der wir uns um die Pflege der beiden Kinder und des Hauses kümmerten, wieder viel Freude daran, Euch ganz herzlich bei uns zu begrüssen.

Die Zeit von Mitte April bis Ende Juni sowie wieder von Anfang September bis Mitte/Ende Oktober ist wieder ganz besonders gut dazu geeignet, sich die herrlich hügelige Landschaft des Penedes mit seinen vielen Weinbergen, Wein-Bodegas, Sehenswürdigkeiten wie Museen, alte Burgen und Klöster etc. anzuschauen. Auch die Nähe zur Metropole Barcelona sowie zur wesentlich kleineren und ruhigeren, von den Römern geprägten Stadt Tarragona sowie das mit einem Mikro-Klima versehene Strand-Resort Sitges machen unseren Standort sehr attraktiv.

Die zu uns gehörende Kreisstadt Vilafranca del Penedés bietet auch alles, was das Urlauberherz begehrt. Mediterranes Flair, kleine Strassen-Cafés, kleine Läden, die zum Shoppen einladen, den grössten Wochenmarkt Kataloniens (immer Samstags zwischen 9 und 14 Uhr) sowie jede Menge Kultur und mittelalterliche Gebäude, die man besichtigen kann.

Bei all' der Schönheit der Umgebung darf das leibliche Wohl natürlich nicht zu kurz kommen. Kulinarisch hat die Region Penedes viel zu bieten. Es gibt viele Restaurants sowohl in unsere Nähe als auch im gesamten Weingebiet verteilt, in den man sehr lecker lokale und mediterrane Gerichte geniessen kann.
